I could advice that to our SQL Server department because running
multiple streams could improve performance, but would that prevent the
backup from pinning the TSM recovery log?

Hi Eric,

Have you considered using the "/STRIPes=n" option?
It allows you to break up the single stream of bytes
into "n" stripes on different parallel sessions.
