"Although Tivoli Storage Manager for Application Servers will no longer be
available to back up WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Application
Server data can still be backed up to Tivoli Storage Manager or Tivoli
Storage Manager Extended Edition using the recommended approach below.

Use Tivoli Storage Manager backup/archive client and WebSphere Application
Server (WAS) backupConfig command:

   - The recommendation for backing up WebSphere Application Server V6 or
   later to Tivoli Storage Manager is to use the imbedded WebSphere Application
   Server backup support to back up to local disk and then use the Tivoli
   Storage Manager backup/archive client to back up the disk files to Tivoli
   Storage Manager.
   - The backupConfig command provided by WebSphere Application Server
   copies the contents of the profile's config directory tree to a zip file. A
   corresponding restoreConfig command can restore the configuration from the
   backup zip.
   - You can use Tivoli Storage Manager * preschedulecmd * option to
   initiate backupConfig automatically prior to scheduled Tivoli Storage
   Manager backups"
