Hi Thomas,

for managing tape libraries in a dual data center you may take a look at
IRMM. IRMM can replace the TSM Library Manager, increasing the
high-availability of tape resources for TSM and other applications.

For instance, IRMM can integrate the tape drives and the tape cartridges of
multiple physical tape libraries and present them as single logical tape
library to TSM. If one tape library is down, then IRMM redirects new
scratch mounts to the resources of one of the remaining tape libraries.

IRMM's built-in priorities allow to automate the redirection of incoming
data. For instance, it is possible to direct the data of a certain TSM tape
storage pool to a tape library which is located in a data center A and only
to a tape library in a data center B if the preferred tape library is down.

IRMM's piorities enable to predefine such redirections in advance. No
configuration changes are required in TSM later on at the point in time,
when the tape library is going down. IRMM is designed to deal with hardware
outages thus it increases the robustness and the scalability of traditional
library sharing.

Please feel free to contact me directly via mail for further questions. I
am with IBM providing technical support for IRMM.

Best regards,
Ulf.
