Ok, MS DFS as I understand it is a piece of information hiding (I'm a
unix admin). The DFS links are just pointers to the DFS replica
servers (DFS targets), which serve normal windows shares on normal
NTFS filesystems. So the latter are the ones to backup.

The only exception is formed by DFS replicas that do actual
replication. If there are multiple systems that serve identical data,
synchronized using DFS replication, you might not need to backup all
replicas of that data.

I've learned all this from
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Windows2003-Distributed-File-System.html
. Basically, a good windows admin should understand this way better
that I do and could have told you this....

(There are a lot more articles on DFS on that same site, short, well
written and quite clear on the concepts, it got me up to speed on DFS
in about an hour).

I've read the appropriate page on the Tivoli Information Center, but
it
is a little terse.

(I searched the Tivoli Information Center, the Redbook site, and the
IBM
Publications Center. Lots of DCE/DFS stuff, but nothing on MS DFS.)

Has anyone seen a doc with more background on DFS and TSM?

Thanks, [RC]
