Thanks for your thoughts.

(Only been on site here 1 week so starting to wade through some issues)

On further investigation, it appears that the ANS1809W message appears
frequently in the error logs of many of the clients. A smaller number also
include the ANS8010E message.

There are 2300 clients, maxsessions value is set to 1200 and
maxschedsessions value is set to 50% (600). Randomization is 0.

There were approx 240 of last nights backup sessions running when I checked
before lunch today. There are 500+ nodes within the schedule that is running
many of these backup. The duration is 1 minute, so I guess thall 500+ will
come in together. Overall, there is approximately 1800 schedules running
nightly, I am wondering if the TSM server is stressed out with the number of
session running.

I would have thought it best to have a longer duration with a randomization
value of perhaps 25%

Thanks

Jeff

Yes; but the ANS8010E message may not relate to the Serialization value.
I would take a look at the TSM server Activity Log to see what action
the
server was taking at the time such that the client got the ANS1809W,
which
seems to contribute to a session-conduction limit count - rather than
the
actions involving client file access and sending. It may be that
preemption
is causing the condition. (Preemption can be artificially caused by
some
drives or paths being offline, resulting in a contention shortage.)
