Both schedmodes have advantages. Promted is very useful if you want
things to start at an exact moment, polling is very useful if you want
randomization. I don't understand your comment on tape drives, surely
you have a bunch of disk in you TSM server and have client only on rare
occasions go directly to tape?
If you do have many clients go directly to tape,make sure you have
enough drives. Also you want your mountwait to be way up (maybe 60 or
even higher). Mount retention should be one or two minutes usually.
If we have sheds on some clients with status "in progress" too many times
and when stop all tsm process on problem clients(scheds,dsmsta) this we
have on tsm server side:
