Given this bill along with the software maintenance contract cost we will
probably be forced to do the same.
I really like TSM and think it's far superior to most other backup products.

It's just to damn expensive!

Yep, that sounds accurate.

And much as I like TSM, we are having to look elsewhere to back up our
environment. I know IBM probably doesn't care, but not everyone can afford
that.

I don't know if you remember I had emailed the list a while ago about a
audit. Well I guess the reason I was audited was because my software
maintenance contract was ending soon. Anyways, I called our IBM
representative because there were several items under software maintenance
that we were not using anymore and we did not want to pay software
maintenance on. To make a long story short, we ended up auditing the entire
quote for which I sent him a list of servers, cpus, cores that we were
backing up. He had a rep from Tivoli do an analysis and it turns out we had
13 servers that were not licensed to be backed up. Yesterday my IBM rep sent
me a quote for the new licenses and I was quite shocked at the total. For 13
servers the total price was almost 39 thousand dollars. This is just the
license to back the server up. That works out to about 3,000 per server.
Does this seem right? Is this about what everyone else is paying? It just
seems awfully high for a client backup license...

Thanks!
Mark
