Here is some information that might prove helpful. I recently received
this from Tivoli support;

One consideration when upgrading the TSM Server is that 5.4 is 64bit
code, so, if your current 5.2 (or even 5.3) server is 32bit, you'll need
to do one of the following in order to upgrade to 5.4:
1. Uninstall the 32bit 5.2 code and install the 64 bit code of the EXACT
same TSM 5.2 version. Once on the 64bit version of the 5.2 is installed,
you can follow the steps in the guide to perform the migrate install.
2. Alternatively, you can uninstall the 32bit 5.2 code, install the
64bit 5.4 code, and the run 'dsmserv upgradedb' prior to starting the
TSM Server for the first time after the 5.4 installation (the migrate
install in step 1 runs 'upgradedb' automatically).

Of course, before you can install any 64bit code, you'll need to ensure
AIX is in 64bit mode (bootinfo -K). Also a general recommendation is to
always be sure you perform a full db backup prior to attempting the
upgrade.

1. Can I skip 5.3 and go straight to 5.4 without license issues? Yes,
you can. Regardless of which version you upgrade to (5.3 or 5.4), you'll
need to register the appropriate license (tsmbasic.lic, tsmee.lic, or
dataret.lic) after you upgrade the server using REGISTER LIC
FILE=<lic_file>.lic. A description of the licenses are below:

tsmbasic.lic - To license base IBM Tivoli Storage Manager.

tsmee.lic - To license base IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Extended
Edition.
This includes the Disaster Recovery Manager, large
libraries, and NDMP.

dataret.lic - To license IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Data Retention.
This is required to enable Data |Retention Protection as
well as Expiration and Deletion Suspension (Deletion
Hold)

2. How do I get 5.3 from passport advantage? Available software appears
to start at 5.3.2 vs. 5.3.0. 5.3.2.0 is considered base code, so, if you
decided to go to 5.3, then you could migrate directly to 5.3.2.0.

Below are a list of technotes that you should find useful in migrating
to 5.3 or 5.4. Thanks.
