I am trying to connect a new TSM server to a long-existing 3494. The
new server hardware is running RHEL 4 and TSM 5.3.0.4. To make the
connection, I have added the new server to the LAN Host configuration
of the 3494. The new server and the 3494 are both on a non-routed
private network. I can ping each from the other. lmcpd (atldd) is
running on the TSM server, but when I run; #mtlib -l 3494-01 -A, the
response is:
Library Address Information
              library name.............3494-01
              host identification......tsmbl01
              primary address..........192.168.251.1
              primary status...........offline
              alternate address........192.168.251.2
              alternate status.........offline

The LAN Status screen on the 3494 shows that the LAN Port for the new
server is not initialized, and that seems to be the root of the
problem. The System Summary screen shows '2' LAN ports available, but
both are already in use by AIX-based TSM servers.

I have scoured the "3494 Operator Guide" for every instance of the
string 'initialize', and have found descriptions of what the System
Summary and LAN Status fields pertaining to LAN ports mean, but no
instructions for initializing a LAN port.

Can anyone tell me how to do that? We installed the 3494 in 1998, and
the original TSM servers in 2000. No one from that era who is still
here has any recollection.

With my thanks and best wishes,
