Hello Brenda,

basically you need a user (prefeably a domain user) with backup operator
rights plus rights to manage security logs and run as service. Set up a
scheduler and web service on a Windows machine as a sort of "CIFS Proxy"
under these rights. In the option file, enter something like an example
from our environment:

commmethod tcpip
TCPServeraddress servername or ip
TcpPort 15xx
Nodename nodename
TCPBUFFSIZE   32
TCPWINDOWSIZE 63
TXNByteLimit      25600
LargeCommBuffers  No
tcpnodelay yes
HTTPPORT 15xx
errorlogretention 10 D
schedlogret       10 D
passwordaccess    generate
LANGUAGE          AMENG
schedmode  prompted
subdir yes
DIRMC MGMT_DIR

domain \\<ip or filer or alias\share1$
domain \\<ip or filer or alias\share2$
...
domain \\<ip or filer or alias\share3$

include "\\<ip or filer or alias\...\*" MGMT_CLASS
include "\\<ip or filer or alias\...\*.*" MGMT_CLASS

exclude.dir "\\<ip or filer or alias\...\~snapshot"

skipntsecuritycrc yes
skipntpermission yes
* traceflags
* traceflag service
* tracefile c:\tsmservice.tra
resourceutilization 4

Set up schedules for the node and off you go.
For redundancy, you could even prepare a second dormant identical Node for
manual failover on a second machine.

For restores always use the web service, as this has the appropriate rights
on the files to do restores. The GUI won´t work, as it runs under your
restricted file access rights.

Mind you: in a fast growing environment, file scan times can be rather long
and performance is not what you are used to from local disks. Restores of
files and folders works rather well as long as the amount of data and the
number of files to be restored are not too big.
Restoring the whole filer this way can be out of scope depending on the
time you are granted for getting the data back: have a closer look at NDMP
for desaster recovery! With TSM 5.4, NDMP has become rather flexible
regarding the infrastructure needed, and it is included at no extra license
costs in TSM EE. Single file restore via TOC is painstaking depending on
the volume or virtual filemapping size...
Single file restore is easier with CIFS while NDMP is for DR, so choose or
combine.

Regards,
Markus
