checki libv libname volxxx devt=xxx stat=priv (owner=xxx)

gets it back into the library.  Then as Richard says, you can move or whatever.

Thanks, that worked to remove the volume location, I was trying to use
the overflow location.  Silly newbie error.
The volume does contain data and I used the checkin command to return it
to the library.  I am wondering if I will need to use del volhist to
resolve the issue.

Are the media empty when you return them?

Try upd vol xxx loc='' (two single quotes).
