q content VOL copied=no
will tell you whether there are files on the damaged tape that are not
in a copy pool. If there are, you will have to delete vol VOL
discarddata=yes and hope you don't need to restore those versions. Once
the del vol completes successfully, the next incremental will back up
those files if they were the active version and if they still exist on
the client.

q content VOL copied=yes
will tell you whether there are files on the damaged tape that are
still in a copy pool. If so, run another restore vol VOL preview=yes to
see what volumes you need, retrieve them, and do another restore vol.

Will someone verify my thinking?

Here's the scenario...A primary pool tape was damaged. After
performing
a restore volume from the copy pool I got a message saying:
ANR1256W Volume volume name contains files that could not be restored.

Will TSM back these files up during the next incremental?
