Hi list,

What is the best way to erase data from a tape and make it
available for use again, or at least to turn its state to scratch?

Reclamation. Or, more tediously, Move Data.

Note that no TSM function erases tapes - TSM simply re-uses them;.
If you need to erase retired tapes, a utility such as tapeutil can be
used.

Where TSM storage pool data is obsolete, utilize Delete Filespace,
after conferring fully with the data owner. There is also Delete
Volume, for special purposes; but be careful about partial
obliteration of a filespace.

Refer to the Admin Guide manual.
