There are a couple of ways of doing this:

1) Create the new raw volumes, the same size as the JFS volumes, mirror each
volume, then break the JFS mirrir leaving the raw volume DB
2) Create the new raw volumes, any size you want. Define the raw volumes to
the database, then delete the old volumes. TSM will move the data to the
available volumes. The downside to this is, and maybe someone can chime in, is
that theoretically TSM could copy the data to available space on your existing
JFS volumes, until the last JFS volume is being deleted, which it would then
for sure move to raw. If you have multiple volumes, I would delete them from
bottom to top - the top ones SHOULD be the emtiest ones.
3) If you do not have space for the raw volumes, backup up your TSM DB, shut
down TSM, delete the JSF files, created the Raw volumes, and restore the
database. For peace of mind, maybe make 2 backups of your database.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Subject: [ADSM-L] Migrating from JFS to Raw Database

Hi Everybody,

I'm running TSM 5.3.2.3 on AIX 5.2. I would like to move a TSM instance off
using JFS flat files to raw logical volumes for its database and logs . Does
anyone have a procedure on how to accomplish this ?

Rich
