Recommended policy for LTO automated library with two drives
2006-05-17 12:45:53
Hi list,
I have TSM 5.3.2 installed on a Windows 2000 box connected to a DS-4300 storage
and a DELL PowerVault 132T with 22 slots and two Quantum drives. The cartridges
are LTO2 type with 160/320GB capacity.
A full backup from all servers would be of aproximately 400GB. A full backup
from all workstations would be like 1,5TB I guess. I can use up to 2TB in the
DS-4300 for a diskpool......and then migrate backed up files to the automated
library.
This is what I need:
To backup servers and workstation data. Approximatelly 20 servers and 550
workstations.
To backup Notes, Oracle and SQL servers using TDP.
To keep monthly and yearly tapes.
The backup retention will be a 60 days for Servers and 30 days for Workstations
The archive retention will be 365 days for all policies
Offsite tapes.
The backup schedules for workstations will copy only data from specific
directories like "c:\ notes\ data" and "My Documents". The latter can be a
problem, as the real directory name changes for each user....."My Documents"
really is "c:\ Documents and Settings\ ....\ ....."
These are my questions:
So far I've created two policies, one for servers and one for workstations.
Should I have specific policies for the TDP for Notes, Oracle and SQL ?
Also, what would be the best way to create volumes in the diskpool? Many small
ones? Should I enable spacetrigger?
Should I create more than one diskpool ?
Considering that the automated library has 22 slots and has a barcode reader,
how many tapes should I label and mark as scratch and ready for TSM ?
How do I calculate the amount of tapes that are going to be needed per year ?
Am I forgetting something?
Please advise.
Thank you and sorry for so many questions......any help is appreciated !
