Not true.

On the machine that you BACK UP, start the client and pull down
Utilities -> Node Access List

Or in the command line backup, use the SET ACCESS command.

The BACKUP machine can grant permission to the RESTORE machine (that is,
the tsm nodename of the RESTORE machine) to access all or part of its
backups.

Then on the RESTORE machine you can use the -nodname parm to access the
BACKUP machines data with a dsmc restore.

Checkout the parms in the TSM client manual.

Other possibilities:

 -virtualnodname parm
 -asnodename parm in TSM 5.3 lets multiple nodes backup/restore under
the same virtual name
