I was just mulling about the Idea to speed up large restores of small files,
without resorting to image backup, keeping everything on disk, or
collocating tapes. If I could keep just the active copy on disk I could
speed up the restore considerably while keeping inactive copies on tape.

Out of curiosity, what is the reason for this requirement ?

TSM and an appropriate configured library can be pretty fast at
restoring files even if the last active version was backed up a long
time ago.

What if you sent the data you wanted to keep in the diskpool to a
separate diskpool from other data and only cached that diskpool ? If
you do a "dsmc sel" for just these files then they will always have the
active file in the diskpool. This seems like a pretty drastic approach
though.

Maybe someone else will chime in with a better suggestion.

No, I would like to keep all the active files in a disk pool, even If
they have not changed in a long time. I don't need to keep all the files
in the Disk Pool, just the latest version. "Cache Migrated files" keeps
all the files backed up in the Disk Pool, I just want the active files
in the Disk Pool.
