Truth be told, this particular problem is directly related to down-level
clients. We had some bugs a few years back in the summary statistics
processing (of which affinity id plays a part). The bugs were causing
incorrect summary statistics on the server and, in some cases, server
crashes. There was a series of APARs opened to fix them, some on the server
side and some on the client side. If you are seeing messages about
incorrect affinity ID, that means the server didn't like what the client
sent it, which means you need to upgrade your client.

p.s. smutil does not stand for storage management utilities. Good guess,
though.

Bob,

I've seen this on scattered clients at various levels of V5R1.
Some of the maintenance levels were real flaky. Upgrade to
something in 5.2 or 5.3, and the problem probably goes away.
At least that's my experience.

smutil probably stands for "storage management utilities". I
would suspect a collection of common routines.
