UPS conditioning of incoming AC power is great, and always makes us
feel good; but the AC power coming out of the UPS is not directly
feeding the drives. In between are in-frame AC power units, and
conversion of AC to DC for digital circuitry. If any of those are out
of spec or defective, this can result in instability, erratic
operation, and even damage to the devices. A good CE will be
suspicious of power supplies where a succession of (good) drives fail
for no apparent reason.
