Hello TSM'ers,

TSM 5.2.2.3

Admin CLI 5.2.2.0

AIX 5.2

Over the last few days, we have been getting lots of tapes remain empty even
after the reusedelay has passed. TSM show the following error;

ANR1343I Unable to delete scratch volume

TSM believes the volume is currently in use, but no processes are using the
volume at all. All the volumes this is occurring on are also marked as readonly.

...

Actually, we solved this as I was writing the mail...!!

The issue was that space reclamation thresholds had been set to 50 a few days
ago and not turned off. It seems that tapes made empty by reclamation are
'unusable / owned by reclamation' untill the space reclamation processes are
stopped. Once we stopped the reclamation happening, we could update the
volumes. We have ended up needing to 'delete volume' on the reclaimed volumes
to get the to return to scratch.

Matt.

You are right the Netware staff installed service pack 02 , I just upgrade the
tsm client version to 5.2.3.0 and will run tonight a backup. If I still got a
problem will download the newest tsa patches as you suggested.
I didn't quiet understand what you mean by cache allocation percentage and how
to do it .
Thanks for the answer.

Assuming that it's been fine up until now, I would guess that something has
changed. Has there been any patches/service packs/new tsm clients installed
lately? If not, you may also want to look into the newest tsa patches (tsa16 I
believe). Another thing to look for is the cache allocation percentage for
tsafs. It should generally be set to no more
than 10% of total memory. TID# 10091980 may also have info relevant to
your problem.
