You may also have to change the (Windows) properties of the TSM service to
run under a network-enabled account.
By default it usually runs under the SYSTEM account, and so may not have the
rights to create files on another server's disk.

that is an OS type issue...
just create some form of network file system mounted up on your server,
create the device class of type FILE pointing to that area, then use that
device class to do your DB backup to...
Ugh... I'm not the windows type person but say you have a K: disk that is
really over on another server (what I'd call an NFS mount in the Unix
world)
then inside TSM just do a "def dev REMOTEDSK devtype=file dir=K:\"
then just do your "backup db t=f s=y dev=remotedsk"

I would like to do a dbbackup to a disk on another server, but not part of
a
storage pool, just to a file (that will be on a separate machine).
Could someone please tell me where to RTFM (Read The Fine Manual) so I can
get this right?
I would be happy either doing this from a command file (batch file) or from
a scheduled TSM administrative script.
My environment is Windows 2000 server with TSM 4.3.1 server.
Thanks ... Jack
