I found journaling to be very useful for exactly such problems.
I have a client with only about 25GB's of data, but about 10 million
files.  The backups were taking 4-5 days to run, now with journaling,
they complete well within a 24 hour period and I only run weeklies
(customer request) on this box.  The one bit of advice I would have is
to make sure that you locate the journal DB files on a drive with plenty
of space since you have a lot of change on the system every day.  I
would say locate them on a volume with 1-2GB's of space just to be on
the safe side.  By default, it will put them in the TSM program folder.
Look at the manual to see the directions on where to change the location
of these files.
