Very likely, your library driver has not yet "discovered" the new column.
For AIX I would delete the library device (e.g.: /dev/smc0) and run cfgmgr
again to acquire the new "Vital Product Data".

Subject: Second storage column for the Ultrium 3583
I have installed a second storage column in our Ultrium 3583. On the
display, the System Dialog screen from the library submenu is telling me
that there are 18 empty slots left, but it's not possible to check in
tapes. I get the message: ANR8314E Library LB1 is full. Have i forgotten
something?
