Moses,

When performing Domino Server database file backups,
Data Protection for Domino uses standard TSM policy management.
That is, you can think of it like you do TSM policy management
for files when using the standard TSM Backup/Archive client.
If you are not familiar with how that works, you may
want to pay a visit to the IBM Tivoli information center:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/index.jsp?toc=/com.ibm.itstorage.doc/toc.xml

You should find out what management class your node
is binding the backup objects to and examine the management
class (copy group) settings. You can see the the default
management class by using the command:

     domdsmc query adsmserver

If you are binding your objects to special management
classes using INCLUDE statements in your DSM.OPT file,
you should examine the policy settings for that
management class (copy group).

If you haven't already done so, you should read a section
in the Data Protection for Domino User's Guide called
"Backup strategy considerations". It discusses some
ideas on how you should plan your backups.

Many customers have special policies set up for their
Domino mail files based upon time, not number of versions.
And so, for example, they might have a requirement to
keep mail databases for 30 days, regardless of how many
times they get backed up. In that case, their settings
might look like this:

  VEREXISTS NOLIMIT
  VERDELETED NOLIMIT
  RETEXTRA 30
  RETONLY 30

Using these settings, a backup will not be expired
until 30 days have passed. Once a backup object is
expired from the TSM Server, for all intents and purposes,
it can be considered deleted.

Thanks,

Del
