Hi Cory!
I have done some few disaster recovery solution where you don't need to
re-install the SQL Server or patches.
But I have only work with our software CBMR together with ITSM and ITSM
TDPs.
We have try this solution on MS SQL 7 and 2000. Both Server and
Enterprise edition.

What you do is follow.
ITSM Client backups all data (exclude the databas files)
ITSM TDP Client backups all databases.
CBMR Client backups the System, ITSM Clients and TDPs and follow SQL
Files.
Data\master.mdf
Data\mastlog.ldf
Data\model.mdf
Data\modellog.ldf

When the machines goes down you repair the hardware and recover the
system by the standard CBMR concept but include the SQL files.. (See the
redbook to see how the CBMR product works).
When CBMR is finish restore all files with ITSM Client
Start the SQL Server in Singel-User mode and restore the Master databas
to the last one.
Restart the SQL Server but this time to Multi-User mode and restore all
your databases.

If you want to try CBMR pls go to website www.cbmr.info

Good Luck
Christian Svensson

Amne: Question about SQL Server Recovery

Has anyone developed a good procedure for rebuilding a W2k SQL server,
from bare metal? I have seen the instructions n thesql tdp manual, but
am wondering if there might be other ways to do it. One idea I had was
making a onetime flatfile backup of the master db on our sql servers
that could be restored with the other data. I'm thinking that this
should eliminate the need to install sql and the service packs and
create a new master db and just begin the restore at that point.

Also, is there a difference in the restore procedures for sql server and
sql enterprise?

Thanks in advance,

Cory
