Matt,
Rman crosscheck will only expire those backups that belong to that node
during the RMAN crosscheck. This statement does not belong in the manual,
I am glad that you pointed this out. There is no need for your DBA's to be
concerned that other data is needlessly getting expired.

Subject: RMAN crosscheck command and ITSM for DB 5.2
*SMers
In the ITSM for Databases v5.2 (Oracle) manual SC32-9064-00 it states:
"Be aware that the RMAN crosscheck command will expire backups on the
Tivoli
Storage Manager Server that belong to a different Tivoli Storage Manager
node or file space."
...three times (relating to policy set up, deleting old backups and using
utilities).
Our DBAs were understandably a bit concerned having seen this and would
like
some clarification, since they use crosscheck as part of their backup
expiration/deletion scripts.
It seems to indicate that the crosscheck command will expire Oracle
backups
for ALL our nodes backing up to a given TSM server, although i'm sure this
can't be the case.
I presume that this is true only if you don't specify the TDPO.opt file
during deletion script?
Can anybody confirm or refute this as it's not very clear and it's a
alarmed
our DBAs somewhat
TIA
