Here's the resolution to the problem.....just in case you ever run across
it yourself......it's a treat.....I assure you!!!!

Per TSM Level II Support:
It looks as though you may be running into the following APAR:

APAR= IC36737  SER=                            AB ABEND
INVALID ENTRIES IN DOMDSM.LOG CAUSE THE GUI OR COMMAND LINE TO
CRASH.
ERROR DESCRIPTION:
TDP is unable to process invalid entries in domdsm.log TDP
expects each
line in domdsm.log to begin with a date and time in the
following format
mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss. Unexpected lines in domdsm.log will be
pruned from

the log and could cause the GUI or command line to crash upon
startup.
Reference: Internal Defect 10230
LOCAL FIX:
Ensure domdsm.log is not being written to via an output redirect
or as a schedule log

PROBLEM SUMMARY:
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: Data Protection for Domino users who copy *
*                 invalid entries into domdsm.log              *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If invalid entries are copied into the *
* log file, the prune processing may crash*
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: Wait for the next release *
****************************************************************

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
TEMPORARY FIX:
COMMENTS: Invalid entries should not be copied into the
domdsm.log file. If you need to save screen output for support,
copy them to a different file name.

The following was the last function calls we are trying to make

09/23/2003 14:50:46.031 [4996] : agtlog.cpp ( 529): Enter
PruneLogFile
  m_LogName : C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\domino\domisch.log
  m_RetentionDays : 8
09/23/2003 14:50:46.046 [4996] : agtlog.cpp ( 555): Current Date
and Time is 09/23/2003 14:50:46.
09/23/2003 14:50:46.046 [4996] : agtlog.cpp (1003): Entering
OpenLogFile
  fileName : C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\domino\domisch.log
  openMode : r
09/23/2003 14:50:46.046 [4996] : agtlog.cpp (1037): Exiting
OpenLogFile
09/23/2003 14:50:46.046 [4996] : agtlog.cpp (1003): Entering
OpenLogFile
  fileName : C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\domino\tdpprune.log
  openMode : w

I would suggest looking for domisch.log and look for incorrect inputs to
that
file. That would also explain why there are not any other enteries in the
log files that were sent to me.

On one of my servers I cleared the domisch.log and it resolved the problem.
On the other server I had to clear the domdsm.log.

I could not see anything that looked like bogus data in any of the log
files.
I have no idea what prompted this problem.
It occurred about the time we were loading a bunch of Microsoft patches for
virus's

Thanks!

Hi Debi,
Do you have the GroupShield anti virus software running on your machine?
Or are you trying to run TDP for Domino via Terminal services. There are
some known problems with running Domino server and Groupshield.
You can also search IBM Knowledge Database to see if the problem you are
seeing is documented. To
access this go to:
http://www.ibm.com/support/search
Enter the keyword TDP for Domino and you should see some relevant
articles.

Hi List,

new day, new issue

The executable for the GUI and the executable for the Command Line of TDP
for Domino will not start on two of my clients.
It acts like it's starting, and then it just goes away. It never paints
the screen or anything on the GUI. On the command line one, it takes me
out to a dos prompt in the right directory, but it's not logged into
Tivoli, it's just a normal dos command line from the server.

So what do you do?

I tried rebooting the servers, no luck.
I tried to reinstall the TDP with the Repair option. No luck.
I copied the executables from a working server over to a non-working
server, no luck.
There are no errors reported in the Tivoli logs.
There are no errors reported in the NT Event logs.

We're running two TSM servers, one TDP client problem on each server.

We have :

Server 1 is: Windows 2000, SP3, TSM V5.1.7.0

Server 2 is: Windows 2003, TSM V5.2.1.0

Both clients are Windows 2000, SP3, TDP V5.1.5

I have other TDP Clients working on both servers.

I guess I could try to un-install and reinstall, but it requires a few
reboots and too much down time for our customers.
I don't want to go thru all that if there is an easier way, and maybe that
won't work any way.

Any suggestions?

Deb Randolph
