Answer 1:
The licenses you are asking for are irrelevant to SAN. They can be used in
both LAN and LAN-free scenarios.
The "FlashCopy" feature of IBM ESS and "TimeFinder" feature of EMC
Symmetrix allow snapshot copy to be made at the disk array. Later this
copy can be used for backups and other purposes. TDP for ESS and TDP for
Symmetrix (both are now part of IBM TSM for Hardware) automate the
snapshot creation process and the backups of these snapshots taken from
DB2, Oracle and R/3.

Answer 2:
TSM does not iteract with the LVM. TSM creates backups from files,
directories, filesystems and raw devices. TSM for <...> also iteract with
different application but again have no contact with the LVM used. The
impact is just like the question "does TSM support IDE or only SCSI
disks".
Consequentially TSM can perform both LAN and LAN-free backups from those
files and applications.

If you are asking about Veritas filesystem, it is different story - TSM
B/A Client for Sun Solaris supports VxFS, and in ITSM v5.2 VxFS is also
supported on AIX.

Subject: TSM Licensing question & Veritas Volume Manager Question

Licensing question:

We are considering implementing a SAN. Lan free backups are enabled on
a SAN using the storage agent, which could be any of several vendors
SANs. What then is the purpose of these licenses?:
Number of TDP for ESS in use: 0
Number of TDP for ESS licensed: 0
Number of TDP for ESS in try buy mode: 0
mber of TDP for ESS R/3 in try buy mode: 0
Number of TDP for EMC Symmetrix in use: 0
Number of TDP for EMC Symmetrix licensed: 0

Veritas Volume Manager Question:

Since we have a number of AIX and Windows 2000 machines that will be
participating on the SAN, it has been suggested we consider implementing
Veritas's Volume Manager. Has anyone any experience with this product
along with TSM?

-Since it replaces AIX LVM and Windows 2000 system, does it invalidate
previously existing backups and archives in these environments?
- Can it be used in a SAN with the storage agent for LAN - free
backups.

Any experience with VVM with TSM / SAN would be welcome.
