They haze just lifted with the 2nd cup of coffee.... When the INACTIVATELOGS
runs, all it does is "expire" the active versions and then they're retained
by the VERD/RETO parameters. So if, as Del suggests, I bind the logs to a
VERD=NOLIM,RETO=7, then I'll only be keeping them a week beyond when they
inactivate...?
So my 2 management classes for Domino would be:
VERE=NOLIM, RETE=35, VERD=NOLIM, RETO=35 for the databases
VERE=NOLIM, RETE=7, VERD=NOLIM, RETO=7 for the logs
They should find a way to start the day off like you've already had 2-cups
of coffee!! :-)

I set this up a few months back and I resigned myself to keeping the
transaction logs with the same retention settings as the files they are
linked to, as the two are bound together.

But I thought that the logs were uniquely named and wouldn't go away until
you did an INACTIVATELOGS command?? And if my oldest backup is 35-days
then
the INACTIVATELOGS would only remove the logs that are older than that
full
backup?? Or am I missing something here...(Which wouldn't suprise me!!!)

Bill,
How about using the INCLUDE statement to bind the
log backups to a management class with different policies?
For example:
INCLUDE S*.TXN MGMT_CLASS_7_DAYS
where MGMT_CLASS_7_DAYS has settings of
VERE=NOLIM, VERD=NOLIM, RETE=7 RETO=7
Thanks,
Del
