Re: TSM LTO 3580 Performance

Jorge,
this a limitation of the technology. TSM tries to workaround it by using
"aggregates" - bunch of files is treated as single object. However for
tiny flies (I liked your typo, it is close to bugs :-) even an aggregate
of 256 files is too small and LTO does not stream.
You cannot work around this limitation without changing the technology. A
technology suitable for performing such a task is used in IBM 3590 B/E/H
and STK 9840/9940 drives. LTO is good for bulk transfer/storage and to be
more competitive onprice has some limitations.

Hi All
I have sort of the same problem. But my drives are connected through a
SAN.
So small flies in LANFree Backups are an issue. Is there a way to avoid
this
interrupted stream issue? It sounds like a terrible waste to have several
LTO-1s with fibre attachments and HBAs and what nots to have to always
rely
on disk pools.
Thanks
Jorge Salinas
