There you can find a nice redbook named "Tivoli Storage Management
Concepts" (SG24-4877-02). Read carefully all chapters from 1 to 8 (and
some of the others might also be very helpful).
For example, in Chapter 3 "Data storage policy" you can find detailed
answer to your question.

Hi guys,

I am still fairly new to TSM and needs all the help I can get. I need to
change the incremental policy of a certain domain. I have 7 versions of
backups set on my current policy and are kept for 30 days. If I change
that policy to 90 days, will all my 7 backups be retained or does the
change only affect the new incrementals? Are my old backup versions bound
to my old policy?

Thanks in advance>
