What WAS running (if you know - e.g., expiration, reclamation, etc.) when
the "hang" occurred.  What other diagnostic information can you provide?

Was the server consuming CPU and not responding, or was it just not
responding?  ...and how long (period of time) was the server not responding?

When you entered admin commands through the console, were you getting the
"initial" responses (ever)?
e.g.,
ANR5965I Console command:  xxxx
ANR2017I Administrator SERVER_CONSOLE issued command: xxxxx

What were the last dozen or so messages that the server issued?
How was the server behaving immediately prior to the "hang" - i.e., was real
storage occupancy growing/dropping? Was server CPU utilization
dropping/increasing? Was work progressing normally or was it already
degraded beforehand?

How many tape devices were allocated by the server (if you know) at the time
the unresponsiveness began?

etc., etc., etc.

I would "take a dump" while the server is in the hung state and open a
problem record with Tivoli support and send it to them...

TSM 4.2.3 on OS/390 2.10.....



Three weeks ago and then again last night during the 18:00 hour, TSM
just stops functioning (hangs up so to speak).  There are no messages,
no nothing to give any indication as to what is occurring.



Has anyone seen these symptoms?  Any ideas as to what might be
occurring?



We're preparing to go to 5.1 but, aren't quite there so, being on an
unsupported version doesn't do us much good with support so, I'm looking
to you all for any advice.
