That is indeed another option I've forgotten to mention:

Backup the logical logs to a seperate storage pool and delete the volume from 
TSM when you don't need them any more.

But I would think (or hope) that a more elegant solution should exist, since 
IBM bought Informix as well. As it is e.g the case in the TDP for Exchange. 
Incremental backups also have a unique name but get inactivated (and expire 
with the value 'retain only version') when a new full backup is taken.
