Hi,
I've got a TSM server (TSM 5.1.1.6) running on Windows 2000 and a TSM client
with a TDP for Notes. The library is a Compaq Storageworks SSL2020. Both
server, client and library are connected to a SAN.
The library has a status panel with following contents:
Loader: Idle
Drive 0: Ready
Drive 1: Ready
When backups are running (direct to tape) the drive numbers on the status panel
of the library switch from time to time eg Drive 0 becomes Drive 21 or Drive 60
and so on. After a while the drive number returns to 0. The same occurs for
Drive 1, the number switches from time to time as well.
Some time later, the library gets completely stucked and must be restarted.
OK, I would think a hardware problem with the library as well. But some parts
(drives, controller) were replaced already and the technician is pointing of
course in the direction of TSM. We'll get a spare library later this week to
see if the problem still persists.
In Windows, RSM service is disabled. The medium changer in the device manager
is disabled as well. The TSM device driver starts at boot time. No errors are
found in the activity log or the Windows event viewer during the switching of
drive numbers.
Has anybody experienced already a similar problem? Would it be possible that
TSM makes too many calls to the library and hence is confusing the library?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Kurt
