IBM has a self-defeating habit of over-pricing licenses...
Some years ago, many customers were getting into DCE/DFS - only to have some IBM
executive decide that hiking its license fees to astronomical levels would
greatly increase profits. Instead, it drove customers away: we were well into
DCE, and then dropped it because of IBM's arrogant move.
We're finding much the same thing with licensing Infoprint Manager to drive some
measly 50 ppm HP printers: they want a lot of money for the privilege. And this
is greatly souring our experience with that product.

IBM needs to get in touch with the realities of what customers can afford to pay
- particularly in these economic times. The IBM monolith does not like to adapt
to change, and that hurts everyone.
