AW: Backup Files and directories over than 255 characters
2003-01-30 05:26:55
Hi,
I guess you may be observing a bug (feature?) in your file system.
Under NT4 /not sure particulary about SP6/
255 is up to my knowledge the limit
of the NTFS file system.
However, under circumstances
the NTFS will not prevent you from creating longer
path/names (I saw that on network mounted NTFS volumes:
f:\some-directory\ was shared and when accessin it over network/SMB
255 was the limit for network mapped names.
So if an application created over network a-file-with-255-chars-name
the length of name seen on F: was 55 + the length of
"some-directory"´s name.
On that file server even some microsoft tools could not cope with
such (F:) path/name combinations.
We ended with redesign of directory structure.
Regards
Juraj

Betreff: Backup Files and directories over than 255 characters
Hi all,
We use TSM v4, r1 level 1.16
We cannot backup successfully files and directories
who have length over than 255 characters. TSM Client
run on WINDOWS NT4 SP6.
Do you know a workaround? Any references? Any experiences
like us?
Thanks for help,
Regards.
Christian.
