a crude way is...for a single file...issue a restore to another filename and
watch
what tape mount gets called...you can also cancel the restore once the
mount is requested (q sess f=d...).

Ah, I would love to have SQL query that answered this question.
Obviously this information is in the database
somewhere otherwise TSM wouldn't know which
tape to mount when performing a restore.

But for some reason it isn't in the pseudo-tables the SQL
interface uses.

The CONTENTS table tells you which file is on
which tape but it doesn't tell whether the
file is the active version or not.

And the BACKUPS table holds information
about all the different versions of a file
but it doesn't tell you which tape it is on.

Very frustrating.
