So, you have to rebuild the server with the failed server's name?
Can you use virtual node name to restore system objects?
I know this can be done for just data restores...

You cannot fool windows 2000 by just changing the name of the server in the
dsm.opt file.  The server name must actually be the node you are restoring
or the registry will not restore.  At this point you will likely have to
restart your recovery, I hope this was a test.
