Miles,

Sorry for the delayed response. Had to take a personal day yesterday, and
so did not check my mail.

The FastT line is developed/supported by the folks in Raleigh, which is
the xSeries group (Intel). As such, their primary focus is that platform,
and Unix support shows up later in the product cycle.

After I re-read your message, I realized that you were specifically asking
about the 700...I have not set up a Unix variant on the 700's yet, just
the 500's.

As to what I meant by restrictions, perhaps that wasn't the best term to
use; "recommendations" would probably have been a better choice.

You did not say how you are planning to attach it
(point-point/loop/switched). The kind of thing I was referring to in my
previous message is that you cannot dual-attach the AIX server such that
one HBA goes direct to controller0, and the other HBA goes direct to
controller1 when using RDAC. Also, you cannot use dual switches and set
it up such that there are multiple paths going to different ports on the
mini-hubs on the FastT...if you do so, you will never see your storage
from the host as the switches will do e-port logins to the other switch
through the mini-hubs.

AIX only uses RDAC, not AVT. They say to disable the "autorecovery"
attribute by doing "chdev -l -darX -a autorecovery=no" for multi-initiator
systems, and you can enable load balancing by changing the
"load_balancing" attribute to yes for those systems.

It is recommended to use the "create volume wizard", and let it distribute
the volumes. This is because the FastT works best doing something they
call "Orthogonal RAID", which load-balances across both controllers. You
can achieve this manually, but they recommend letting the wizard do it.

There's a bunch of stuff like that, which hopefully the vendor/partner
that you are working with already knows about.

I have NOT specifically set up TSM on one, although as it is relatively
fast fibre channel disk, it should give decent performance.

Hope that answers your questions.

-Lloyd
