Rick,

As I understand things (and have seen on my own system), the Atape.driver,
smc devices, and rmt devices are all for IBM-brand equipment. To use
other brands, you have to defind lb and mt devices using the "adsmtape"
driver. You will still have the rmt devices because the drives answer
cfgmgr when it polls the SCSI bus.

If, after defining the lb and mt devices, it still doesn't work, you
probably have an incompatibility between the version of adsmtape and the
library firmware. That happened to me with an HP DLT library. Both
companies tried to be responsive to the issue and it was eventually
solved, but be forwarned that you will be in a "who's on first?"
situation. You might have to do a lot of facilitating to get it solved.

The AIX lbtest tool can shed some light, but I'm not an expert on its use,
so for that I'll defer to other members of the forum.

Good luck.

Guys,
I recently emailed the list asking if the scalar 100 was supported under
aix 4.3.3 and in tsm 4.2 and the response was yes. I have yet to see it
work in our current environment. The drives are detected correctly (rmt0,
rmt1) but the autoloader is not detected (smc0). AIX doesnt see it,
cfgmgr
kicks back with a devices.scsi is missing and i have tried all the drivers
i can think of off of the AIX 4.3.3. disk. I can specify under TSM
devices
that there is an lb0 but it seems to fail .. any one have any advice at
all ?? ADIC support is completely useless. I am trying to use the Atape
drivers for the support.
