Are you backing your database up regularly? If not, that is probably why
you are not complaining yet. If you lose the database, the data on the
tapes is inaccessible.

My databases is about 15M pages and has never had an unload/load performed
to reorg it. I plan on doing it soon. The estimate is it will reduce the
database by 50%

Are you running expiration and reclaimation yet. That may explain some of
your growth if you are not. Also, the default for reclamation is 100%, so
the tape has to be completely empty before TSM will reclaim the tape. You
may want to check your storage pools. The general recommendation is between
50% and 70% empty depending on your situation.

30GB database is pushing for a Windows NT enviroment unless you have really
good disk attached to it such as high end, ESS, HDS, or EMC disk.

Have you looked at your policies for retention. Depending on how you set
them up, you could really be chewing up some tapes.

Are you using any collocation?

Take a look at your occupancy usage by using a "q occ" to get the usage.
Issue a "q volume" to see what the usage is of your volumes.

Welcome to the best product in the business for this type of data. It does
have challenges. The List will help you. Consider coming to SHARE in San
Francisco, there are many TSM experts at this conference. Go to
www.share.org and look at the Distributed Project Program. TSM Development
attends this conference as well.
