Hi

Using DIRMC is probably the easiest way to implement faster restore times.
DIRMC means that you don't have to restore each subdir from tape, which
takes a VERY long time. Instead, you use random access media(diskpools),
which is much faster when it comes to finding the data.

Simplest way to implement DIRMC is probably to use client optionsets. In
client options sets, you can specify which nodes that are to use DIRMC
option. DIRMC is best when used together with fileservers, and other
servers with a lot of subdirs. However, there is not point using it with
servers that hasn't got a lot of subdirs.

Remember that when creating the mgmt class for subdirs, the versioning
must be at least that of the files. Otherwise, you risk the ability to do
a point in time restore.

And, remember to implement copypool, to secure the subdir information you
have placed in the diskpool.

Best Regards

Providing that moving to the use of DIRMC doesn't cause more problems than
it solves,
does anyone have a procedure checklist for creating and implementing DIRMC
on an existing TSM server?

Is there enough of a benefit to warrant altering an existing
configuration?
