Yes, where I say you need "TSM 4.2", you can read it to mean "TSM 4.2 or
higher".

If by "TSM English version" you mean setting LANGUAGE AMENG in the options
file, then yes, TSM can handle this. The LANGUAGE setting in the options
file is used only to determine in what language messages, GUI menu items,
etc., are displayed.

However, if you have Japanese file names on English versions of Windows
(we're talking about NT-based Windows systems, right?), then you need TSM
4.2 (both server and client) in order to support that environment. Prior
to TSM 4.2, there was no support for Unicode, so the client would operate
in the OS's native code page. Since Japanese characters are not in the
English version of Windows's native code page, the TSM client could not
back up the Japanese file names; you would need to run TSM on a Japanese
version of Windows in order to back up Japanese file names.

On NT-based Windows systems, the TSM 4.2 client uses the Unicode code
page, so there is no longer a mixed-code page issue like there was for TSM
4.1 and below. However, you also have to have the TSM 4.2 server for this
setup to work, as the file space on the server has to be flagged as a
Unicode file space.
