Hi

I have experience in both L700, 3584 and 3583.

Whats the reason for doing a combination of either 3584/3583 or L700/L80?

The 3584 is probably the library that is easiest to install and manage. It is also the library that is most expandable(6 frames).

The 3583 is as the 3584, very reliable.

However, I'd guess that the IBM libraries is a bit more expensive than the Storagetek libraries.

The L700 is a good library, however normally the support from StorageTek when using TSM isn't as good as IBM support. I've had some firmware and drive level problems earlier with the L700.

My best advice, is to use a fibre-attached 3584 library. The throughput from the fibre drives are much better than using LVD or HVD.

I've seen throughput up to 28MB/s through a SAN switch using FC drives on the 3584.

With the 3583, you only get LVD/HVD, but you can attach it to a SAN using SDG modul. This isn't a performance upgrade though.

Also, when buying the Storagetek LTO, you don't really know what kind of drives you will get in your library(HP, Seagate, IBM). This has made some problems in the past, as all drives aren't equally supported by Tivoli(or wasn't at least).

Best Regards

Subject: Tape Library Experiences

Hello ADSMer's,

We are trying to decide on which LTO tape library to purchase for our UNIX /
NT environment. This library will be replacing a STK 9710 with DLT 7000
drives.

Our environment is:
TSM Server 4.2.1.11, on AIX 4.3.3 / Winterhawk node.
       Clients range from 30+NT servers,
       150 desktops,
       SAP R/3 on Oracle  (500GB on S7A),
SAP BW on Oracle (150 GB on SP2's),
and 15+ other Oracle databases on both NT and SP2's

We are looking at purchasing a combination of either the IBM 3583 and 3584
or the STK L80 and L700.
We would be interested in hearing any experiences (good and bad) for either
the IBM or STK products.

Thank You,

John Marvin
