People shred paper documents all of the time. They want to dispose of them
and don't want them to get into the wrong hands. Whether a person considers
the wrong hands a competitor, a hacker, or the FBI, the reason for shredding
is the same. Why should an electronic document be any different?

It appears that it is very difficult to "shred" a document from TSM, and
there is no guarantee that it can't be recovered given the desire and the
means. This also only addresses the TSM portion, not all of the other
places, such as a local cache, printed copies, electronic copies, etc. where
the document could also exist.

Because of the various difficulties in completely deleting a document I
think using encryption on the documents would be more suitable. This still
has its problems, including the same moral issue, but it would offer
additional benefits and less risk to the other documents.

Thanks for your help.
