What the CE should have done, and what you can do is put the tape
in the 'recovery slot' which is the top left slot in
the rack facing the input door ( check your 3494 manual if this isn't clear ).
so pause the robot, open the I/O door and stick the tape in there.
Close the door and set the robot back to auto. You'll notice that about
the second thing the gripper does is go and check the recovery slot.
It'll eventually, after a couple more checks retrieve the tape from this
slot and put it back into it's original slot.
Once this is done you can eject the tape via

mtlib -l/dev/lmcp0 -C -VS01111 -s FF00 -t FF10

and the tape should come out.

I wouldn't do an full inventory unless you have to as this takes time
and means taking the Library manager offline.
