Are you using a different rs232 port on the 3494 for your h50?  Does the
IBM engineer need to initialise the rs232 port if it wasn't previously used
before?  Look on the System Summary window at "Direct Attach Ports".  You
might be able to do it yourself if you have Service Mode access.
