The ARCHRETention parameter specifies the number of days (from the date of
archive)
to retain copies. So, if you updated the PD on Oct. 10th with [ TSM> upd do
ARCHDOMAIN
backret=60 ] then it is not going to affect the files that were already
archived prior
to the change. Really you did not change the ARCHRETention, you changed the
BACKRETention!

Anyway, TSM is not initially concerned with with ARCHRET anyway, but only
when:

1) The mgmtclass to which a file is bound no longer exists, & the def
mgmtclass does not
contain an archive copy group

2) The archive copy group is deleted from the mgmtclass to which a file is
bound & the def
mgmtclass does not contain an archive copy group.

So, the archive copygroup in that domain is what TSM is initially driven by!
