Hi John

The problem that you're describing is first of all not a problem, and
second is a normal behavior on other plattforms such as NT/W2K and UNIX.

TSM is very CPU intensive, but also I/O intensive.

However, if you think that your TSM implementation is running slow, due to
lack of processor power, you could check:
Is your mainframe a partitioned machine?
Or, is the TSM server limited to using only some of the processors?

Normally, the S/390 guys doesn't prioritize TSM, which means they set the
max util as low as possible, to give other applications more CPU util.

Best Regards

Hi let me explain my problem and see if any of you mainframe 390 guru's Can
help me.

We are currently running TSM 4.1.2.0 on a 390 mainframe running on a token
ring network
We currently back up on average 230 nodes per night amounting to approx.
+60GB per night.

We have found TSM very CPU intensive in relation to other applications, say
DFDSS moving 2GB or FTP or HSM. I realise that backing up data comes at a
cost but are any of you experiencing similar
Problems with TSM and OS390 ?

Or is it just that TSM running on a mainframe is notoriously CPU intensive

any replies on performance re 390 and TSM appreciated.
