Beware of the following:

-It is currently not possible to use persistent binding with W2K and SAN
attached tape drives using the Qlogic QLA-2200F HBA
attached tape drives using the Qlogic QLA-2200F HBA

This means that the SCSI ID used by TSM can change without you as the TSM
sys admin being aware of it. A glitch in the SAN or a fix of a tape drive
that involves a disconnect of a drive could mean that you loose the tape
devices on all your W2K systems. A reboot re-creates the SCSI ID although it
might not be the same any more! This as the "translation" from WWN to SCSI
ID seems to be done in magic mode at a device driver level. Thus you need to
do a re-inventory of the SCSI IDs on all the W2K systems followed by a
re-map of the drivemapping in TSM. This is a possible risk for data
corruption.

IBM is aware of the problem and our local IBMers are helpful in driving the
issue. I do hope they can resolve the problem as it is hard to justify to
our customer that they need to reboot 10+ SAP systems to be able to do the
backup after a change. I will post any forthcoming solution here too.

If you would like to learn more about persistent binding: the redbook Using
IBM LTO Ultrium with Open Systems, SG24-6502 explains what it is and how it
can be done on a SUN server. I don't know if the problem also exist with any
other adapters, Qlogic is supposed to be supported.
